Coherence in Motion

Developmental Movement for Somatic Experiencing Practitioners and Students

Co-directed by Debra Clydesdale Waldron and Mark Chandlee Taylor

Drawing from Somatic Experiencing® and Body-Mind Centering® , Coherence in Motion trains SE students and practitioners to incorporate principles of human developmental movement into trauma healing.

Embodied somatic movement is a vital tool for trauma resolution. It will expand your knowledge of the sensation and behavior aspects of SIBAM, as experienced in context of movement. Because the reflexes and movement patterns develop in utero and in the first year of life, they are largely sub-cognitive: Coherence in Motion is particularly helpful in working with pre and perinatal trauma, attachment disorders, and people living with global high intensity activation.

The courses are taught in studio settings and assume that you are comfortable with
explorations moving in space and lying on the floor, as well as in chairs. Each unit:

  • Presents a central aspect of developmental movement theory and embodiment

  • Offers practice working with movement from an SE perspective, integrating such principles as self-regulation, titration, pendulation, coupling dynamics, and the threat response cycle

  • Allows participants to recognize movement patterns and reflexes that emerge within sessions and track the autonomic nervous system response to those movements
